Champlin Park Softball Beats Rogers to Qualify for First State Tournament
After some near misses, the Champlin Park softball team is headed to the state tournament for the first time in program history.
The Rebels beat defending section and state champion Rogers 1-0 in the Section 5AAAA championship game.
While both teams had their share of baserunners, the only run came on a wild pitch in the second inning as courtesy runner Sydney Burnevik dove in with a run after running for Chloe Postma.
Marissa Rothenberger pitched a shutout for the Rebels and got solid defensive support to keep the Royals off the board.
The state class AAAA tournament begins Tuesday at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
