Oliver Taynton went 3-for-4 with three hits and four RBI's, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning to lead the Maple Grove Post 172 Legion baseball team to 9-1 win over Excelsior White in the opening round of the Gopher Classic.
Post 172 started hot by scoring three runs in the first inning and then another two runs in the second.
Teddy Conlon kept Excelsior in check all day and earned the win on the bump.
Maple Grove is 1-0 in the Gopher Classic and has three more games remaining in pool play.
