Champlin Park Baseball Beats Mounds View for Section 5AAAA Title
The Champlin Park baseball team beat Mounds View 4-2 in the Section 5AAAA final to advance to the state tournament for a second straight year.
After Mounds View’s Liam Berlien homered in the top of the first, Rhys George’s two-run single in the bottom of the first gave Champlin Park the lead for good at 2-1.
The Rebels added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to go up 4-1.
Mounds View made it interesting, scoring a run on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh but Evan Nordby struck out the next two hitters to preserve the win.
Starter Donovan Vendel struck out seven Mounds View batters in five innings for the win.
Nordby fanned six in two innings of relief.
