Champlin Park Baseball Wins Thriller in State Opener
The Champlin Park baseball team won a thriller in the state Class AAAA quarterfinals Thursday, holding on to beat Andover 3-2.
Jaden Oligmueller’s two-run single in the fourth inning gave the Rebels a 3-1 lead.
Andover pulled within 3-2 on Keaton Coe’s second RBI single of the game in the fifth.
Andover built a big threat in the top of the seventh, and after an hour rain delay, they loaded the bases with no one out.
Champlin Park got a huge double play when rightfielder Donovan Vendel caught a flyball and threw home to catcher Cal Ockuly for the tag on the runner attempting to tag up to score from third.
Josh Henchen then struck out the last batter to send Champlin Park to the semifinals, where they will face Edina.
