Champlin Park Baseball Beats Edina in Extra Innings to Advance to Title Game
The Champlin Park baseball team won a wild one in the state Class AAAA semifinals, edging Edina 8-7 in nine innings to advance to the championship game.
Luke Carlson scored from second base on a fielding error by Edina on a ball hit by Christian Dull for the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
After Champlin Park had built a 2-0 lead, Edina scored five runs in the fourth to grab a 5-2 lead.
Champlin Park quickly answered with three runs to even the score at 5-5.
Edina went up 7-5 but Cal Ockuly’s two-run double tied the score 7-7 in the sixth.
Edina’s Kaden Kimes tripled to lead off the top of the ninth but his courtesy runner was stranded, setting the stage for Champlin Park’s late heroics.
The Rebels face Rosemount in the championship game Monday night at Target Field.
