Funner Brothers Donut Co. Adds Ice Cream to Golden Valley Shop
When you’re craving freshly-baked goods, or more specifically, doughnuts, there are few places in the northwest metro that can rival Golden Valley’s Funner Brothers.
“Because they’re the best donuts in town,” said Mackenzie Winter, a customer from Golden Valley.
It’s more than sugar and flour. There’s magic happening in these pastries.
“They’re great,” said Nicole DeBoer of Golden Valley. “I mean, I don’t know, they’re classic.”
If you talk to the owners, they’ll tell you that business is good.
“We’re about two years into the remodel, rebranding, changing to Funner Brothers,” said Alex Loosbrock, a co-owner. “The reception’s been good, and yeah, we couldn’t ask for more.”
Yet for as popular as the bakery is, “more” is exactly what Funner Brothers is giving to its loyal customers thanks to a partnership with Bridgeman’s Ice Cream.
“You know, we had so many hours that the bakery’s not in use, and we were just kind of tossing around ideas one day and we landed on ice cream,” said Loosbrock.
Funner Brothers usually closes for the day at 11 a.m., but for the rest of the summer, they plan to reopen in the afternoon and become an ice cream shop.
“Just ice cream in a cup or cone,” said Loosbrock. “Something you can bike up with your family, walk up with your family on a nice day; and there’s not a ton of places that you can do that anymore, you know.”
The plan is to offer 12 rotating flavors of hard-scoop, Bridgeman’s Ice Cream, which people can enjoy on new, multicolored picnic tables outside.
The news came as a welcome surprise to customers who stopped in for pastries.
“I love ice cream. Big ice cream person,” said DeBoer.
“I’m super excited about it,” said Winter. “We love to get scoop ice cream, hang out on a picnic table with our puppy and just hang out and enjoy the sunshine in the summertime as much as you can. So, it’ll be the perfect after work snack.”
Owners want to stress that the full bakery selection will not be available during ice cream hours. There is, however, one notable exception: Funner Brothers will sell doughnut ice cream sandwiches.

Funner Brothers will sell these doughnut ice cream sandwiches during the evening ice cream hours.
“We just generally take one of our giant donut holes and then you choose the ice cream and slap it in between the donut hole,” said Loosbrock.
It’s the perfect concoction to make everything feel, well, “funner.”
“I think it’s definitely good for the neighborhood,” said DeBoer. “I think we need more small businesses. Especially ice cream. I mean it’s a win for everyone.”
Funner Brothers ice cream hours are:
Monday-Thursday 5-9 p.m.
Friday 3-9 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday Noon-9 p.m.
