Maple Grove Softball Advances to Section Final
The Maple Grove softball team beat Champlin Park 5-0 in an elimination game in the Section 5AAAA tournament.
The win moves the Crimson into Thursday’s final round against top seed Centennial.
Champlin Park had defeated Spring Lake Park 17-1 in five innings earlier Tuesday to reach the game against Maple Grove.
Maple Grove broke a scoreless tie in the third inning against Champlin Park when Sydney Hockett hit a two-run single.
They scored twice in the fifth, with Elizabeth Berry hitting a sacrifice fly and Hockett delivering an RBI single.
Bella Daniels pitched a shutout for the Crimson.
Maple Grove needs two wins over Centennial to take the section title; the Cougars need one win.
