Maple Grove Softball Wins Playoff Opener
The Maple Grove softball team beat Irondale 5-0 in the opening round of the Section 5AAAA tournament Thursday.
The first round games were pushed back two days by the steady rain earlier in the week.
Maple Grove got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a Lauren Beissel double.
Beissel doubled in another run in the third. The Crimson added two more in that inning on a groundout and squeeze bunt to build a 4-0 lead.
Merrit Walberg pitched six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts for the Crimson in the win.
Maple Grove is facing Champlin Park in winner’s bracket play Friday.
