Maple Grove Boys Soccer Stays Unbeaten with Win Over Champlin Park
The Maple Grove boys soccer team beat Champlin Park 2-1 Thursday to stay unbeaten this season.
It was a rematch of last year’s Section 5AAA championship game.
Maple Grove scored early on a penalty kick after Champlin Park was called for a handball violation.
Crimson goalkeeper Beckett Carlson took the penalty kick and buried it 3:29 into the contest.
Champlin Park tied it up on a corner kick by Elijah Ibraheem that he hooked directly into the net midway through the first half.
It stayed 1-1 until late in the second half.
Gavin Chabica had his first shot attempt blocked but it caromed back to him and he chipped it past charging Rebels’ goalkeeper Evan Martin with 10 1/2 minutes remaining.
