Maple Grove Blanks Champlin Park in 5AAAA Softball
The Maple Grove softball team blanked Champlin Park 2-0 in the second round of the Section 5AAAA tournament Thursday.
Dani Strom delivered both runs for the Crimson with a two-out, two-run double in the third inning scoring Faith Kreye and Alissa Wernz.
Whilm pitches big game for Crimson
Maple Grove pitcher Maddie Whilm gave up just five hits and struck out 14 to earn her 13th win of the season. She pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning with an inning-ending strikeout.
Champlin Park pitcher Riley Leonhardt allowed six hits and struck out five.

The win moves Maple Grove (15-7) into the winner’s bracket final Friday afternoon at top-seeded Centennial.
Champlin Park (14-8) hosts Osseo in an elimination game Friday in the double elimination tournament.
