Champlin Park Softball Advances in Section 5AAAA Tournament with Win over Maple Grove
In a win-or-go-home elimination game, the Champlin Park softball team advanced in the Section 5AAAA tournament, beating Maple Grove, 5-2.
The Rebels got on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI sac fly to center by Chloe Postma that scored Amanda Kotsmith.
Postma brought in two more runs on a single in the bottom of the third, Sarah Zimmerman made a great stop at short and throw to home, but Reese Reimler just barely beat the tag.
Champlin Park added two more runs in the fifth. The Crimson did make things interesting, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, but a double play made by Lauren Heltemes at second ended the game.
The Rebels will now face Rogers in the Section 5AAAA final. Champlin Park will need to win two games over the Royals to advance to the Class AAAA state tournament.
Maple Grove ends its season with a 13-11 record.
