Third Family Member Dies from Wrench Attack at Maple Grove Home
A Plymouth man will face additional charges after his mother, whom police say he attacked in a domestic dispute on July 8, died from her injuries. An 86-year-old grandmother and a 31-year-old sister also died from injuries sustained in the attack at their Maple Grove home.
Police arrested David Ekers, 34, at a Maple Grove house in the 165oo block of 82nd Ave. on July 8. According to a criminal complaint, officers received a call from Ekers’ father alerting them to a domestic assault at the home. Police say Ekers admitted that he tried to kill all three victims with a wrench after learning they wanted him to take medication or undergo treatment for his mental illness. The criminal complaint says he didn’t attack his father because he viewed him as an ally.
The grandmother died the following day. The sister and mother were hospitalized and died on July 22 and 29, respectively.
Ekers faces three counts of second-degree murder with intent.
