Minnesota High School Grad Rates Reach Record High: How Local Districts Fared
Osseo Area Schools has something to celebrate. For the first time in five years, its high school graduation rate surpassed the state rate.
That’s even more impressive, considering the state’s high school graduation rate reached a record high at 84.2 percent in 2024.
The graduation rate for Osseo Area Schools was 84.6 percent in 2024, nearly five percentage points higher than what it was in 2021.
“Seeing our graduation rates rise is certainly a moment to celebrate the dedication of our staff, scholars and families. It takes all of us working together to make progress like this happen,” said Osseo Superintendent Kim Hiel in a written statement. “Even so, I want you to know that we aren’t finished yet. There is still much work to be done to ensure all of our scholars achieve this success.”
Park Center Senior High saw a seven-point gain in 2024, achieving an 81.9 percent graduation rate, after finishing at 74.9 percent in 2023. Osseo Senior High, meanwhile, rose 3.2 percentage points to 87.1 percent. Maple Grove Senior High remained about the same at 94.9 percent.
Hiel credited each school’s newly-created operational plans that have been worked on for months for the improved outcomes.
How Other School Districts Fared
In other school districts, Brooklyn Center Community Schools saw impressive gains. That small district rose above a 70 percent graduation rate, nearly 12 percentage points higher than in 2020.
The Hopkins and Robbinsdale school districts, meanwhile, saw slight declines.
