Brooklyn Center Mayoral Primary Recount To Take Place Wednesday
After just seven votes separated a winning and losing candidate in last week’s primary election for Brooklyn Center mayor, the city is planning a recount for Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Four candidates filed to run for the mayor’s seat in Brooklyn Center.
In the primary, Teneshia Kragness, a current city council member, easily won with 1,832 votes, or 52.86 percent of the total vote.
However, candidates Alexander Koenig and Laurie Ann Moore were only separated by seven votes.
Koenig came in second place with 683 votes, or 19.71 percent of the vote.
Moore, who is also a city council member, came narrowly in third with 676 votes. She requested a recount.
That recount is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Brooklyn Center City Hall, in the Council Commission Room. It is open to the public.
If the recount does not change the vote counts, Koenig will advance to the general election and face Kragness.
