How Robinson Lighting is Bringing Modern LED Trends to Plymouth
Lights come in all shapes and sizes, and choosing the right one to freshen up your space is where experts like Kyndra Flowers come in.
Flowers is the branch manager of Robinson Lighting in Plymouth.
“Working with customers is one of my favorite things to do and one of the reasons I love lighting so much,” she said.
There is a lot that goes into lighting—understanding color temperature, fixture placement, and how lighting can impact your circadian rhythm are all critical steps in the selection process.
“There are a lot of technical elements that go into lighting, but there is also a decorative side,” Flowers said. “Talking customers through both the decorative and technical elements is one of my greatest joys.”

Plymouth’s Robinson Lighting showroom has thousands of lights on display. The store is located at 151 Cheshire Lane Suite #100.
Establishing a presence in the Twin Cities
While Robinson Lighting has been a staple in Canada for decades, it established its first U.S. location in Plymouth 11 years ago. The store is still working to gain its footing in a competitive Twin Cities market.
“There have been so many lighting companies in the Twin Cities with a lot of tenure, and generations of families have been going to the same local showrooms,” said Flowers.
That said, the Robinson Lighting showroom distinguishes itself through a massive selection and a deep focus on modern LED technology. With the rise of LEDs, Flowers says the technology has fundamentally changed how manufacturers design new fixtures.
“For example, you can see this is illuminated, and you can’t really tell where the light is coming from because it’s so tiny and hidden in the edges,” said Flowers, showing off a uniquely designed fixture.

A long-term investment
While the initial investment in high-quality fixtures can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, there is a clear trade-off: consumers can expect LED lights to last.
“They don’t burn out in the conventional sense we’re accustomed to with incandescents, which typically just stop working,” said Flowers. “LEDs will typically fade in brightness over the course of decades—we’re talking 50 to 80 years.”
If a light is going to last that long, it is all the more reason to ensure you pick the right one.
“Talking about how you want to use the space and how you want it to feel really helps our consultants guide the customer toward the right selection,” said Flowers.
If you plan on updating your lighting, her best piece of advice is to bring in photos of the space, along with room dimensions and ceiling height. That information will help the lighting specialists better guide you through the selection process.
