Baseball Training Facility Takes Another Swing at Plymouth Warehouse
An indoor baseball training facility is headed to Plymouth — but it won’t be in the spot where it was originally proposed.
Thorney Training plans to set up shop in an 11,513 square-foot industrial building at 2155 Niagara Ln.
In January, the company had considered opening in a larger warehouse property elsewhere in Plymouth.
“We were thinking about doing another warehouse, and it just, return on investment wasn’t there, so we pivoted and moved to this spot,” said Brett Thorney, who owns Thorney Training. “The building works a lot better for our needs.”
If it gets final approval from the city council, the facility would be remodeled to offer a weight room, six batting cages, pitching machines, and sensor and video equipment for performance metrics and video analysis.
Thorney typically offers one-on-one or group training to students and young adults ages 8-18.

Thorney Training has partnered with Marucci Elite, a prominent youth travel baseball organization. Marucci Elite was founded by former Major League Baseball slugger Adam Dunn.
Trainees would have coded access to the facility and high school aged athletes could train on their own.
The commission ultimately voted to recommend the project for approval, but restricted the hours of operation from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
However, some members of the Plymouth Planning Commission wanted to require that a staff member to be on site anytime the business is open. A motion to that effect was generally opposed by Thorney and failed.
The Plymouth City Council is expected to vote on the proposal on April 28.
