Construction Starts To Expand Maple Grove PUPS Animal Rescue Shelter
A Maple Grove animal shelter that’s served the northwest suburbs for decades is getting a significant makeover.
Officials at PUPS, or Pets Under Police Security, broke ground Monday on a nearly 1,000-square-foot expansion.
The $3.5 million expansion is expected to modernize the facility, making room for more animals.
“One of the most exciting additions is the outdoor behavior assessment and exercise yard, allowing dogs more enrichment, more time out of the kennels, and better support for their physical and mental wellbeing,” said Cassandra Boser, animal containment coordinator at PUPS.
The facility, located at 11350 89th Ave. N. in Maple Grove, houses stray dogs and cats from Maple Grove, Plymouth, New Hope and Robbinsdale.
PUPS is a no-kill shelter that saves 96 percent of the animals that enter its door.
“The impact of this investment reaches far beyond the building,” said Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson. “The PUPS facility serves nearly 190,000 residents across four cities.”
