New Plymouth Business Is Laser-Focused on Weapons Safety
Precision Shooting Center in Plymouth is focused on firearms — but there’s nary a gun on site.
At least not a gun capable of firing a projectile.
Its specialty is hyper-realistic laser guns. Some have CO2 tanks that add a small degree of recoil, simulating a real firearm.
“It’s all basically like an airsoft firearm that’s converted to a laser, or a gun that’s specifically manufactured as a laser firearm,” said Brian Taylor, owner of Precision Shooting Center.
As a Marine veteran and shooting sports enthusiast, Taylor wanted to create an indoor environment where people could learn about weapons and tactics.
“I have been a long, avid shooter and carry permit holder, and have run into multiple people who wanted to get into the shooting industry or carry a firearm, and they’re not comfortable going to a live fire range,” he said. “So, here with the simulation firearms, it’s a completely safe environment. It’s a great place for to people to get started.”
For some customers, getting started may mean an introduction to the rudimentary basics.
“We can set this up with firearms on the counter, walk you through what the experience would be at a live-fire range,” Taylor said.
But it’s not just for beginners. There’s a shoot house with adjustable walls that can be used for law enforcement or tactical training.
The laser-only firearms also allow for shooters to draw from holster and practice other drills that are typically banned at a live-fire facility.
Those looking for a less serious experience can play laser tag in the shoot house or try out a simulator.
The simulators offer a more arcade-like experience, where customers can fight off attacking zombies or bullseye carnival-style rubber duckies.
“So, this is very much more entertainment-based, right? This gives you the look and feel of a video game,” Taylor said.
Precision Shooting Center opened last week. It’s located at 415 Annapolis Lane N., Suite 170.
