Wayzata Girls Track & Field Wins Class AAA State Meet
Battling not only the competition but also the rainy weather, the Wayzata girls track and field team won their program’s second state championship and their first as a class AAA program.
The Trojans earned first place finishes on Thursday from Maddie Gullickson in the girls 1600m (4:49.40), Addison Neitz, Alyson Kleyman, Lila Golomb, and Julia Link in the girls 4x800m (9:16.67), Constanza Castillo, Carolyn Voss, Tessa Cherne, and Tenley Senden in the girls 4X200m (1:40.96), and Macalister Hedtke in the 200m wheelchair (44.20).
Maple Grove’s girls 4×400 team of Rebecca Lang, Lillian White, Eva Williams, and Mackenzie Laux also took first overall (3:52.52).
Hopkins senior Henry Risser won his second consecutive 800m, finishing in 1:52.82.
The last time the Wayzata girls won a state track and field championship was in 2007. This is the Trojans first state title since the MSHSL changed to a three-class system in 2022.
