Maple Grove Softball Rallies to Beat Wayzata
The Maple Grove softball team scores three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally and beat Wayzata 3-2 Wednesday.
The Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer by Lexi Drasher.
The Crimson loaded the bases in the sixth and scored two runs on a ball hit by Lily Nelson past first base and into rightfield. One batter later Sarah Zimmerman scored on a wild pitch from third base on what turned out to be the winning run.
Merrit Walberg earned the win for the Crimson, throwing four shutout innings in relief and striking out seven.
Maple Grove (11-8) is scheduled to finish the regular season Friday at Eden Prairie.
Wednesday’s game was the last of the regular season for Wayzata (10-10).
Both teams begin section tournament play next week.
