Maple Grove Girls 1st; Crimson Boys 2nd After Day 1 at State Golf
The Maple Grove girls golf team leads the Class AAA girls’ state tournament after the first day of play and the Crimson boys team is in second place in the boys’ AAA tournament after 18 holes at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
Maple Grove’s girls posted a first day score of 317, two shots ahead of Alexandria.
Lauren Contreras and Amelia Morton each carded rounds of 74 to lead Maple Grove.
Olivia Salonek of Roseville and Reese McCauley of Simley are the co-leaders of the tournament with two-under par rounds of 70.
The Maple Grove boys trail team leader Edina by three strokes, 298-301, after 18 holes.
Josh Galvin led Maple Grove with a two-under par score of 70. Lucas Feterl shot of 74.
Armstrong’s Evan Dimich shot a 72 and is tied for 14th place.
Jack Wetzel of Edina and Northfield’s Nate Stevens each shot 68 to lead the tournament.
The second day of the 36-hole boys and girls Class AAA tournaments are Wednesday at Bunker Hills.
The Totino-Grace boys are in second place after the first day in the Class AA tournament in Jordan.
