Maple Grove Boys Soccer Beats Mounds View for Section 5AAA Title
The Maple Grove boys soccer team is headed to the state tournament for a fourth straight season after a 2-1 win over Mounds View in the Section 5AAA final Tuesday.
Maple Grove got on the board 23 minutes in as Everett Johnston slipped a great pass ahead to Parker Carlson, who tucked it past the keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Mounds View answered in the second half as Everett Wynn ripped a long shot into the top corner to even the score.
Maple Grove responded less than five minutes later as Luke Bottema’s crossing pass found Carlson, who volleyed it in for a 2-1 lead.
Maple Grove, state runner-up the past two seasons, is headed to state for the 11th time in program history.
Teams will be seeded for the state tournament Saturday and find out their opponents and game date/location for the quarterfinals at that time.
