Hopkins Softball Edges Wayzata in Regular Season Finale
The Hopkins softball team rallied past Wayzata for an 11-10 win in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Royals scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, with the tying and winning runs coming on bases-loaded walks.
The win gave the Royals sole possession of second place in the Lake Conference behind conference champion St. Michael-Albertville.
Wayzata scored three runs in the top of the first to start the wild game, keyed by Lexi Drasher’s two-run double.
Hopkins answered with three in the bottom of the first to tie it up, with Violet Dupree-Hebert’s two-run single evening the score.
Wayzata scored single runs in the third and fourth to build a 5-3 lead before Hopkins rallied again.
The Royals took a 6-5 lead with a three-run fourth inning, with Lola Jessen driving in two of the runs with a single.
They added another in the fifth to lead 7-5.
Wayzata took its turn to surge, with a three-run homerun from Chloe Lackas in the sixth putting the Trojans back in front 8-7.
A two-run homer from Mandy Pelatowski in the top of the seventh made it 10-7 Wayzata.
Hopkins used its last at-bat to provide the last offensive highlights of the day.
Signe Dohse and Abi carter had RBI singles to pull the Royals within 10-9.
Back-to-back walks to Rosa Greenwood and Susan Sherman brought the tying and winning runs in.
Both teams will compete in the Section 6AAAA tournament starting next week.
Seeding for that tournament takes place Friday night, with Hopkins likely to be the top seed and Wayzata second.
