Defending State Champion Champlin Park Softball Opens with Win
Defending state Class AAAA softball champion Champlin Park opened the 2026 season in style Thursday, beating Elk River 13-3 in five innings.
The Rebels erupted for seven runs in the third inning to build an 8-0 lead, then tacked on five more in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early.
8th grader Kennedy Robinson hit a solo homerun in the second inning and blasted a three-run homer in the third to lead the way offensively.
Ella Franz and Madelyn Drugg also had a pair of hits for the Rebels.
Pitcher Ava Abrahamson had a rocky fourth inning but otherwise held the Elks in check, striking out six in a five inning complete game.
