Champlin Park Legion Baseball Wins 4th of July Tourney Opener
The Champlin Park American Legion baseball team beat Minneapolis Southwest 4-2 in the first round of pool play at the Delano Stars and Stripes 4th of July tournament Thursday.
The Rebels scored in the top of the first on an infield hit and throwing error.
After the Lakers tied it in the second, Champlin Park grabbed the lead for good with two runs in the fourth.
A Max Janisch groundout and a Brockton Sandell single brought in the two runs for the Rebels.
Tanner Wylie pitched six innings for the win for the Rebels.
Pool play continues through Saturday, with semifinal and championship games Sunday at the tournament.
Osseo, Wayzata, and Hopkins are the other local squads in the eight-team tournament.
