Champlin Park Baseball Falls to Minnetonka in State Semifinals
The Champlin Park baseball team got plenty of baserunners all game but missed out on some early opportunities to score and eventually lost 8-6 to Minnetonka in the state class AAAA semifinals Thursday.
Champlin Park scored single runs in each of the first three innings to lead 3-2 but Minnetonka turned key double plays in the third and fourth innings to keep the Rebels from bigger innings.
Minnetonka scored twice in the third to go up 4-3 before tacking on four in the fifth to make it 8-3.
A double with the bases loaded by Lincoln Heitkamp of Minnetonka drove in three runs in the fifth.
Champlin Park scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh but their rally fell short.
The third place game was cancelled because of rain.
Minnetonka faces Cretin-Derham Hall for the championship Saturday at Target Field.
