Brainerd Wins AAA Boys Golf Tournament; BSM Finishes 2nd

The Brainerd boys golf team won its first-ever state championship Wednesday, finishing the 36-hole Class AAA tournament with a two-under par team score of 574, 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Benilde-St. Margaret’s.

Will Roiland of Elk River shot rounds of 67 and 72 to finish at five under par and win medalist honors, one shot better than Chase Birdwell of Spring Lake Park.

Patrick Hastings of Benilde-St. Margaret’s was the top local finisher, placing in a tie for fifth at 143 (-1).

Will Godin and Zach Johnson of Maple Grove and Wayzata’s Dexter Burkle all tied for 16th place at 146 (+2).
