Wayzata School District Voters Approve Nearly $500M Referendum
Voters in Wayzata Public Schools approved nearly $500 million in funding requests on Tuesday.
The district posed three questions on the ballot. Each passed with at least 60 percent approval from voters.
According to results posted by the district, 78.21 percent of voters approved the technology levy renewal. That levy generates about $7 million in revenue per year, but the renewal does not increase taxes.
Another 70 percent of voters approved a $465 million request “for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities including, but not limited to, a new elementary school, a new middle school, an addition to Wayzata High School, safety and security improvements and various other capital projects districtwide.”
The narrowest vote was approval of $31 million in bond funding for an eight-lane pool with a diving well at Wayzata High School.
District officials say the pool was approved with 60 percent of the vote.
“We are incredibly grateful for your support and your commitment to our students’ future,” the district wrote in a social media post. “Because of you, we can move forward with essential technology, new learning spaces to address our growth, and improved facilities across the district. We look forward to keeping you updated as these projects begin!”
