Robbinsdale Man Receives 30 Years for Running Over, Killing Girlfriend
A Hennepin County District Court judge sentenced Jordan Jefferson, 30, of Robbinsdale to 30 years in prison for running over and killing his girlfriend with her vehicle. A jury had convicted Jefferson of second-degree murder and two counts of felony domestic assault. The sentence went above what guidelines called for.
Jefferson struck his girlfriend, 28-year-old Ochea Brown, on a sidewalk with her vehicle in north Minneapolis and continued to drag her under the vehicle until he struck a front porch. Judge Martha Holton Dimick noted the particularly cruel nature of the crime when issuing her sentence.
The crime happened in May 2020. According to court documents, Jefferson first assaulted his girlfriend inside the vehicle before running her over. At the sentencing, Jefferson admitted to killing his girlfriend. But during the trial, Jefferson denied running over the victim, instead blaming his best friend.
A press release from the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office stated that Judge Holton Dimick told Jefferson that she found his attempt to accept responsibility and show remorse as “manipulative and insincere” because his admission came only after a jury convicted him.
