Population Estimates Show NW Metro Growth Spike
A new report by the Metropolitan Council shows a population growth spike for the three largest cities in the northwest suburbs.
According to Met Council population estimates, Plymouth experienced the biggest growth since 2010. It grew by 7,775 people, an 11 percent spike.
Brooklyn Park remains the largest city in the northwest suburbs. It grew by 5,898 people, an 8 percent rise. Maple Grove saw its population surge by 5,336 people, a 9 percent rise.
The Met Council points out that while the growth is a positive, it also increases an affordable housing challenge. Housing is generally considered a cost burden when families and individuals spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing costs.
