Plymouth’s Red Roof Inn Slated for Demolition in Two Weeks
The former Red Roof Inn hotel near the intersection of Highway 55 and Interstate 494 will soon be torn down.
But not before it’s put to good use for public safety training.
The Plymouth City Council this week approved a $281,000 contract for demolition work with Rogers-based Veit & Co. The project would be funded from the city’s transit fund. The total cost of project is $379,000 city documents showed.
According to city council documents, Veit was the low bid and has worked on similar projects around the Twin Cities metro.
Demolition is expected to start in two weeks and be substantially completed by the end of July, said Michael Thompson, the city’s public works director.
The city of Plymouth originally spent $4.5 million to buy the property.
Plans for the site include a possible Metro Transit park-and-ride that would provide service between Plymouth and downtown Minneapolis.
Public Safety Plans
Before the hotel is fully demolished, Thompson said the site will be used for public safety training.
“We have some ideas with some new equipment that we have, and just giving some of our officers some practice,” said Plymouth Public Safety Director Erik Fadden on the training plans, at Tuesday’s meeting.
