Marco Polo Pizza: The Best Pizza in Brooklyn Park?
Few things in life are better than delicious pizza.
And in Brooklyn Park, Mesfin Wordofa is making a bold claim about the pies he sells at Marco Polo Pizza.
“Marco Polo Pizza is the best pizza in Brooklyn Park for now, because a lot of people they just like my pizza, they’re happy,” said Wordofa, the owner.
Good pizza is the kind of thing that can make everyone happy, and since opening Marco Polo a year ago, Wordofa has been working to do just that — make people happy. He uses fresh ingredients and a traditional, hand-tossed crust, sold at a price that isn’t going to break the bank.
“This place used to be a Little Caesars. It was like, $5 pizza,” Wordofa said. “People they come here, if you [sell it for] $25, they are, ‘naw man.'”
In other words, he’s deliberately trying to keep the food — whether it’s pizza, or wings covered in cheese — affordable.
And if you don’t want a whole pie, Marco Polo is one of the few places where you can get pizza by the slice.
“Yes the slices are very popular,” Wordofa said. “A lot of people, they come and get that.”
Pizza by the slice, and full pies for less than $15, are all part of Wordofa’s plan to create brand awareness as he tries to break into a market with many long-established favorites.
“In the beginning, it’s very hard,” he admitted. “But people, when they taste it, when they see it, they say ‘hey, you’re doing good.'”
Wordofa, an immigrant from Ethiopia, always dreamed of becoming a business owner. However, he never would have imagined that business would be in Minnesota.
Yet one year after opening Marco Polo Pizza, Wordofa is finally seeing that dream come true, once slice at a time.
“The taste is good, the sauce is good, the cheese is good, everything is good,” he said. “Yeah, I’m living the dream.”
