Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Brooklyn Park Murder Files Appeal
A man convicted and sentenced for the June 2023 Brooklyn Park murder of 19-year-old Reese Crenshaw has filed an appeal of the ruling, court records show.
Walker, 33, was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He appealed the ruling through his public defender last week.
According to court documents:
Crenshaw was attending a birthday gathering and sitting at a card table when witnesses say he was shot in the chest “without provocation” by Walker, who has a lengthy criminal history. The two had not met before.
The shooting happened June 2, 2023 at a home in the 9500 block of Thomas Ave. N.
Court records show Walker fled the scene after the shooting. Officers later found him at a Brooklyn Park apartment complex, where Walker tried to escape off a third-floor balcony when he noticed police.
Walker later admitted to the shooting claiming there was “a 50-thousand dollar bounty on his life” and that the victim “may have known about the bounty.”
Walker was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced last fall.
Brooklyn Park Police: ‘Tragic Incident Has Had a Profound Impact’
Crenshaw had just graduated from high school when he attended the gathering. A GoFundMe post at the time stated that a woman in Crenshaw’s social circle invited him to a co-worker’s birthday celebration.
“If you knew Reese, then you know he was a blessing,” read the post. “He was hardworking, spiritual, and had a fantastic sense of humor.”
In a statement released Friday following the appeal, Brooklyn Park police spokesperson Elliot Faust said the incident had a “profound impact on the family, friends and community members” who knew Crenshaw.
“We are grateful to the officers and detectives who worked tirelessly to swiftly bring the suspect to justice and to the prosecutors for their dedication in securing a conviction for this terrible crime,” said Faust in the statement.
