Maple Grove Police to Get Body Cameras
The Maple Grove Police Department is in the process of getting body cameras. The city council approved the purchase this month, and the cameras should be ready to use this summer. They are cucrently on order and the city council has been gathering public comments about the use of the cameras for the last few weeks. The comments were primarily positive.
A draft of the policy says the purpose of the cameras is to document evidence and accurately capture contact between officers and the public. The policy also says that the use of body worn cameras will add a higher level of transparency of professional services provided by the Maple Grove Police Department. You can read the full policy here.
Besides the body cameras, the project also replaces the aging in-squad camera system.
