Golden Valley Moves Forward with Long-Term Flood Mitigation
The city of Golden Valley will move forward with the next phase of plans to mitigate flooding near Medicine Lake Road and Winnetka Avenue. The city was able to move forward due to recently approved state funding.
The state’s bonding bill includes $1.3 million for the project. Money will go toward updating flood models, engaging with residents and stakeholders, reviewing site conditions, identify opportunities and challenges, and developing concept plans.
The Bassett Creek Watershed Commission, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Hennepin County and the Robbinsdale School District are partnering with the city for the project.
Flooding on Medicine Lake Road has been a long-term issue. Property owners also see damage due to flooding from the DeCola ponds.
Besides reducing damage, the project’s goals also include improving water quality and enhancing wildlife habitat. You can learn more about it here.
