Snow Domes Add to Holiday Decor in Downtown Robbinsdale
Downtown Robbinsdale has a new attraction not only to help people get in the holiday spirit, but also as a way encourage them to shop at one of the stores along West Broadway.
“The [snow] globes are here,” said Robbinsdale City Manager Marcia Glick. “We are going to be having some propane heaters that are going to be rolling in. Some wayfinding with sanitation stations, and the businesses were all provided lights that they can use to enhance their decorations in the windows for the holiday season.”
Robbinsdale is one of five cities selected by Hennepin County as having a unique business district in the suburban metro area.
Those five cities – the others are Wayzata, Excelsior, Edina and Hopkins — received some extra holiday decor in the form of snow globes, which went up earlier this week.
Plans tweaked due to COVID
The original plan was for two of the domes to be places where people could go inside and enjoy takeout food. But with the rising number of COVID-19 cases, Robbinsdale had to cancel those plans.
Instead, all three snow domes will have an artistic component to help bring a more festive atmosphere to downtown Robbinsdale.
“So hopefully as people get out of their house, they just come to downtown Robbinsdale, take a tour down the block, see what sort of creative ideas we’ve got going in our snow globes,” Glick said. “And hopefully when the restaurants can be open again, or when you come for takeout, they’ll have takeout options. You’ll just have another reason to come to downtown Robbinsdale.”
The city plans to keep the snow globes on West Broadway through New Year’s Day.
In the meantime, if you have some creative ideas on how to decorate these new attractions, you can contact the city of Robbinsdale.
