Crest View Elementary Holding Alumni Event To Honor School’s Closure
After this week, Crest View Elementary School in Brooklyn Park will close its doors. The school will be torn down and rebuilt for community education.
To honor the school, Osseo Area Schools is holding an alumni event on Tuesday, June 2, from 4-6 p.m. Anyone who attended or worked at Crest View since it opened in 1960 is welcome. There will be memorabilia, food trucks and an open house.
Principal Stephanie Webster said it will be a great event, but feelings are bittersweet after all these years.
“We’ve had a long ramp to prepare for the change. A lot of grief, lot of sadness– but also excitement for the future. And this real, strong sense of togetherness as a school community,” Webster said.
There are several events underway to celebrate the school. Crest View kids had a water day on Monday and a family barbecue last Friday. All Crest View students will graduate on Thursday.
Enrollment at Crest View has been down over recent years, and the decades-old school will be torn down and repurposed as a District 279 educational building. That includes early childhood education, an American Indian Cultural Center and a wide variety of other educational district needs.
The new building is set to be ready in 2027.
