Brooklyn Park’s Velosity Opens New Lab To Fast-Track Medical Devices

12:48 PM | Wednesday, May 20, 2026

A Brooklyn Park manufacturing company is helping doctors and patients get quicker access to life-saving medical devices.

Earlier this month, Velosity celebrated the grand opening of its new 100,000-square-foot manufacturing lab, located at 6835 Winnetka Circle. The company specializes in producing precision plastic and metal parts used across the medical device and defense industries.

Staff members from Velosity cut a ribbon during the grand opening ceremony for Brooklyn Park’s new Velosity Lab on May 15.

The Velosity Engineering, Launch and Optimization Lab is designed to eliminate the standard production bottlenecks. Normally, taking a medical device part from a raw concept to full-scale production is a time-consuming process.

“In the industry today, that process… can be anywhere from four, five, six months depending on the production schedule, because we have to use production machinery to do that,” said Velosity CEO Dave Hemink.

The use of that production machinery creates delays, scheduling conflicts and limited flexibility. Hemink said the Velosity Lab eliminates these constraints by providing a dedicated environment for early-stage development, guided by a process that ensures parts move efficiently from concept to production once the teams determine that a part is ready to go.

Hemink said something that used to takes months to develop and produce can now be done in a manner of weeks.

“We’re trying to get that device into the hands of the caregivers—doctors, nurses and facilities—so then they can provide that optimal care for that patient in the end,” Hemink said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “It’s a new concept, and we’re seeing a lot of great reception already.”

The Velosity Lab in Brooklyn Park employs about 240 people. Every year, the team creates about 1,500 unique parts for clients and health care providers across the world.

Brooklyn Park’s Velosity Lab operates as a precision machining development center, accelerating new product launches, enhancing part performance, and strengthening strategic partnerships with OEM customers in the medical device and defense markets.
