Couple Killed in Hwy 169 Brooklyn Park Crash ID’d
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the couple killed in a fiery crash on Highway 169 in Brooklyn Park.
The examiner said Sandra Johnson, 55, and Scott Johnson, 51, both of Spring Lake Park, died in the Nov. 13 crash.
The couple died when a pickup truck slammed into them from behind as their SUV was stopped in northbound traffic at about 11:30 a.m. near 109th Avenue, the Minnesota State Patrol said. Brooklyn Park police said the truck hit the SUV at highway speeds. The impact of the crash started the SUV on fire.
Public safety officials say the pickup truck driver, a 55-year-old Maple Grove man, was driving with a suspended license.
Tributes for the Johnsons have poured in on a GoFundMe web page raising money for funeral expenses.
The organizer, James Johnson, wrote that his brother and sister-in-law were out shopping, something they did every Monday on his brother’s day off.
“They have blessed and touched so many lives with there [sic] help and generosity over the years that it makes no sense that they should be taken away from us by someone with no insurance and no drivers license!” he wrote.
The State Patrol continues to investigate the crash. The agency did not comment when asked if charges would be pursued against the pickup driver.
