Cities Across Northwest Metro Recognize Juneteenth as a Holiday
Cities across the northwest metro are recognizing Junteenth as a holiday.
The celebration, also known as Jubilee Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the June 19, 1865 liberation of the last slaves in Texas after the Civil War.

Cities across the northwest metro are recognizing Junteenth as a holiday.
The federal government recognized Juneteenth as a holiday last year.
This is the first year the state of Minnesota has recognized Juneteenth as a holiday.
As a result, city, state and federal offices will be closed on Monday, June 19.
Several cities, including Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center and Maple Grove, are hosting celebrations to commemorate the holiday.
