Brooklyn Park Church Hosts Fundraiser for Backpack Program

A Brooklyn Park church is in the middle of its biggest fundraiser of the year.

A big crowd of shoppers came out for the garage sale at Family of God Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park. Volunteers use nearly every square inch of space for its annual garage sale and fundraiser. They’ve hosted the fundraiser for about 18 years and last year raised about $14,000.

Money raised goes to help families in Brooklyn Park.

“We support the Sheridan Story project, which is a backpack program,” explains Kathy Behrens, a volunteer. “It’s a program to put food in kids backpacks for the weekend.”

The church funds the backpack program at Edinbrook School, which is north of the church. Money raised also goes to Lutheran Social Services.

The sale goes to Saturday at noon. After that, all goods will be donated to avoid going into the dumpster.
