Brooklyn Park Auto Repair Shop Has Colorful Solution to Catalytic Converter Thefts
A Brooklyn Park auto repair shop is getting creative to prevent a crime that takes only minutes to commit.
Victory Auto Service and Glass is offering to spray paint catalytic converters for free to any customers that have their vehicles in for other services.
Catalytic converter thefts have been on the rise due to the precious metals that they contain. Thieves can sell catalytic converters to scrapyards and get up to $350 for one and sometimes more.
Jeff Matt, owner of Victory Auto Service and Glass, said the spray paint will help deter thieves from stealing them.

“By doing this, we hope the customers realize that we’re thinking on their behalf,” said Matt. “We’re looking out for them and hopefully, it’ll stop at some point soon. But just one level of deterrence and a little piece of mind.”
Matt said it can cost hundreds of dollars to replace one catalytic converter. You’ll know if your converter was stolen from the loud roar your vehicle makes when you start it.
