Wayzata’s Thor Soukup Wins CCX Sports Play of the Year
After seven weeks, six rounds and over 7,000 votes, a winner has been crowned in the CCX Sports Play of the Year tournament.
Thor Soukup’s acrobatic, one-legged, jump shot narrowly beat out Hazel Schenkelberg’s top shelf, snipe goal by 40 votes to earn the crown as “CCX Sports Play of the Year”.
Soukup’s goal came in a section semifinal boys lacrosse game against Maple Grove. He previously saw Benilde-St. Margaret’s Gus Bell execute the “jump shot” a couple years ago.
Soukup worked on the shot in practice and pulled it off in the playoffs against the Crimson.
Soukup and Schenkelberg combined to total 978 votes in the championship round.
