Wayzata Stuns Hopkins in Boys Basketball Final
The Wayzata boys basketball team is headed back to the state tournament after stunning top seed Hopkins 63-61 in the Section 6AAAA championship game. The Trojans trailed by eleven points in the first half before rallying to take a three point lead into the halftime break. Wayzata was patient all night and shot the ball well to stay in the lead. Hopkins closed within two but Wayzata shot well from the free throw line to preserve the lead and secure the win. Jacob Beeninga scored 30 points to lead the Trojans. It’s their second consecutive section title after last appearing in the tournament in 1959.
