Wayzata Girls Soccer Loses to Stillwater in State Title Match
The Wayzata girls’ soccer team suffered its only loss of the season Friday, falling 3-2 to Stillwater in the Class AAA title game.
The Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Ava Molde and Lauren Craig.
Alayna Muths scored for the Ponies later in the half to make it 2-1 at halftime. Muths’ second goal of the game tied the match 2-2 10 minutes into the second half.
Rylee Lawrence then scored the game winner for Stillwater netting her team-high 18th goal of the season with 14 minutes to play.
It’s the fourth state championship in program history for Stillwater (19-1-1).
Wayzata, last year’s state champion, finishes with a 16-1-2 record.
The Trojans now have eight state runner-up finishes to go along with eight state championships.
