Wayzata Girls Lacrosse Loses to Benilde in Overtime
The Wayzata girls lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker, falling 9-8 in overtime to Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the Section 5 final.
BSM took a 4-1 lead in the first half, only to see Wayzata respond with three straight goals to tie the game 4-4 at halftime.
The Trojans carried that momentum into the second half, scoring the first three goals to go up 7-4.
Benilde didn’t panic tho0ugh, netting the next three to tie the game 7-7.
The teams each scored once more, leaving the game tied 8-8 at the end of regulation.
After scoring the tying goal from the free position with abou 13 minutes left, BSM sophomore Julia Evens scored the game-winner in OT from the free position.
Evens had three goals and two assists for the Red Knights, with Clara Klassen adding two goals and Tilly Wolfe a goal and three assists.
Ava Score and Katie Sikorski each scored three times for Wayzata with Julia Lindahl adding two goals and two assists.
