Wayzata Boys Soccer Wins OT Thriller Over Woodbury In State Semifinals
For a second straight year, the Wayzata boys soccer team will be playing in the class AAA state championship after they defeated Woodbury 3-2 in overtime in the state semifinals.
Charlie Piller scored first for the Trojans in the first half, but the Royals responded with two goals, one from Zach Sorenson at the end of the first half and the other from Olin Franzwa at the start of the second half.
Wayzata got an equalizer from Gunnar Hendrickson in the 61st minute.
In the first overtime, Woodbury committed a penalty in the box with one second left on the clock.
Tyler Baker scored the penalty kick to send the Trojans back to the final for a second consecutive season.
Wayzata will take on Maple Grove in the class AAA state championship on Friday at 8:00 AM at U.S. Bank Stadium.
