Wayzata Boys Soccer Wins in State Quarterfinals
The Wayzata boys soccer team beat Lake Conference rival St. Michael-Albertville 3-0 in the state class AAA quarterfinals Tuesday.
Mr. Soccer finalist Joe Highfield converted on a penalty kick with nine minutes left in the first half to give the Trojans a 1-0 halftime lead.
Miles Redmond drilled a great shot from the left wing early in the second half to make it 2-0.
Kieran Mahan bounced a low shot in from the center of the field to give Wayzata an insurance goal midway through the second half.
Top seed Wayzata advances to the semifinals Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium. They will meet the Edina-Andover winner.
