Wayzata Boys Soccer Takes First Loss
The top-ranked Wayzata boys soccer team lost for the first time this season Tuesday, falling 1-0 to second-ranked Edina.
Each team had some good chances in the first half but the game remained scoreless.
Goalkeeper Hank Stechmann of Edina and Jack Roach of Wayzata had some key stops, and also got help from defenders to keep it 0-0.
Henry Rose broke the deadlock for Edina in the second half, hitting a perfect shot over Roach just after a throw-in had been cleared.
Wayzata pushed on and generated a couple more good chances later but couldn’t beat Stechmann.
The win gives Edina a split of the season series with the Trojans.
Wayzata won the season opener 2-1 at Wayzata.
