Maple Grove Girls Golf Places 2nd at State Tournament
The Maple Grove girls golf team placed 2nd in the state class AAA tournament in their first appearance at state.
The Crimson had a two-shot lead over eventual champion Alexandria after round one.
They cooled off on day two, while Alexandria surged. The Cardinals won by 22 strokes.
Senior Lauren Contreras of Maple Grove tied for 12th place to lead local players.
Her teammate Amelia Morton, a freshman, tied for 20th place.
Sacchi Deshmukh of Wayzata placed 29th, with Champlin Park’s Taylor Ullen tying for 35th place.
Julia Contreras of Maple Grove tied for 41st place.
Georgia Hinton of Hopkins placed 52nd, with Maria Contreras of Maple Grove 55th and Park Center’s Alysen Blomberg 62nd.
